3-9 Deepack - Here's Johnny (Q007)

3-9 Deepack - Here's Johnny (Q007)

A Here's Johnny
AA Down Low
Vocals - Femke*

This vinyl is one of the first hardstyle tracks i ever heard. Some mates of me liked it and i liked it too when they showed it to me, altough i was still a lot more into trance that days. The vinyl is in a picture sleeve with at one side Johnny Cash on a famous picture where he sticks up his middle finger. The other side got another drawing, dont know exactly what that is, maybe an illustration of the movieguy wich the vocals come from? I believe there are 2 sleeves for this vinyl, because later on the one with the picture of johnny cash got forbidden and thats why that one is rare lately. Probably of much more worth then the second sleeve.

The A-side contains one of the best known tracks of Deepack together with The Prophecy. This track was part of the revolution in hardstyle around summer 2003 when the hardstyle of 2003-2006 got his identity. The track was in the eyes of a lot "early hardstyle" lovers of those days (referring to 1999-2002) way to distorted, hard and "crackly" but in the eyes of others, and new hardstyle lovers it was a great track! Just as in my eyes, while i like the older sound too. This track got a lot of reversed basses and distorted basses. And the only vocal it contains is "Here's Johnny" wich really is a nice vocal (probably not anyore when you heard it thousands of times at the partys of 2003 and later), and is cutted a lot (also to create a reversed bass, cool trick)"Here's Johnny" contains a sample of Jack Nicholson from the movie "The Shining". The melody in it is very simple but by that it accentuates the basslines wich is great. The buildup of this track is nice and original as most of them was in those days. A great classic wich fits in all sets.

The B-side contains Down Low. A nice track with repetetive vocals, also fattened up with a great bassline with much distortion. The melody on this one is a bit better, but the track in total aint that great as the a-side (wich is difficult though) This B-side contains a break, i believe specially made for this track because the vinyl says vocals by femke. Its a nice singing vocal, and it doesnt last too long, with some strings at the background. After that the same melody and basslines come again, nothing special but a nice banging track for today. In the day it came out, it was part of a revolution as said before.
